I’m excited to share some incredible news with you. The United States Sentencing Commission has posted their new agenda for the coming year and we are now officially at the TOP of their list. Finally the gun law responsible for my ridiculously long sentence is being pushed out into the spotlight. Now we simply need to respond to the Commission’s request for public commentary prior to the July 23, 2012 deadline and assure them that we wholeheartedly support their agenda.
I’ve taken the liberty of drafting a brief reply in order to save you the extra time and effort. Please feel free to add or alter it in any way you like. However, this is a time sensitive matter so please do not delay. You have an opportunity to have a measureable impact on sentencing reform, and thus the rest of my life, but it needs to happen now. Thank you again for all of your continued support.
Sincerely,
Adam B. Clausen
U.S.S.C. REQUEST FOR PUBLIC COMMENT – REPLY
Dear Judge Saris and Members of the Commission,
I, ___________________, strongly encourage the Commission to pursue it’s stated top priority of continuing to work with Congress on the statutory mandatory minimum penalties that were previously outlined in the 2011 report to Congress titled
Mandatory Minimum Penalties in the Criminal Justice System.
Specifically, I would ask that the Commission focus on eliminating the “stacking” provision of section 924(c) and then upon ensuring that any subsequent amendment be made to apply retroactively.
Thank You For Your Consideration,
