Presidential Sentence Clemency May be Adam's Only Available Relief.
Mrs. Margaret Colgate Love was the U.S. Pardon Attorney under former President Bill Clinton.
Adam believes that Mrs. Love is the most compelling person to present his petition for Presidential Sentence Clemency.
Contrary to what most people have been led to believe prisoners are NOT
permitted to simply file appeal after appeal. Back in 1996 then
President Bill Clinton put an end to that practice when he signed into
effect the Anti-Terrorism Effective Death Penalty Act. The A.E.D.P.A.
created what's called a "gate-keeping clause" which had the effect of
greatly reducing prisoner's access to the Federal Courts. Since it's
passage federal inmates have been restricted to a single series of
direct and collateral appeals. Each of those appeals is subject to very
strict time requirements for filing and any failure to adhere to those
requirements results in the immediate "time-barred" dismissal of all
claims...regardless of their merit. Although the A.E.D.P.A. has proved
to be an effective means for increasing the efficiency of the federal
court system it has also frequently cost prisoner petitioners their
rightful liberty, and more.
Due to the A.E.D.P.A. I no longer have access to the appellate courts. My conviction became "final" way back in 2005 when the last of my appeals was formally "denied" so I've had to focus my attention elsewhere. Over the last couple of years there has been some legislation proposed and certain recommendations made related to the § 924(c) firearm statute which might someday lead to a dramatic reduction of my sentence. However there are currently no new bills up for consideration related to any possible § 924(c) amendment so other options need to be considered.
The only remaining alternative for relief available to me is a petition to the President requesting clemency. Within that petition I would have to explain all of the reasons why President Obama should agree to reduce my sentence to a more "just and reasonable term of imprisonment". Very rarely are these types of petitions granted but I believe that the Commander In Chief should have the opportunity to give a final ruling on my state of liberty. I fully intend to state my case and make a plea for compassion and justice sometime before President Obama leaves office.
During the summer of 2011 I contacted a prominent attorney in Washington D.C. about representing me during my petition for clemency. At that time Mrs. Margaret Colgate Love agreed to review my case and presented me with her rates. She would require an initial retainer of $2000 dollars in order to begin reviewing my Pre-Sentencing Report, judgment, sentencing transcripts, appellate opinions, and post-conviction opinions. Her hourly fee is $550 dollars and her reputation affords her the luxury of choosing which clients she represents. I'm very grateful that she agreed to review my case and I am hopeful that we will be able to collect the donations we need to retain her services.
Our current goal is $2000 dollars so that Mrs. Love can get started. Your contribution can make a difference Right Now. Simply click on the Donate button below. Whatever you're able to contribute at this time is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all of your support!
